Joey graduated from the Singapore University of Social Sciences in 2022 and was subsequently admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor to the Singapore Bar in 2023.

Joey’s legal experience began in 2016 when she worked as a Legal Executive whilst concurrently reading law. She mainly handled dispute resolution matters (commercial litigation and arbitration), family matters and private client matters.

During her time at university and apart from juggling her school and work commitments, Joey also served as the Head of Clinics and Projects, and subsequently as Emeritus Advisor, with the Executive Committee of the Pro Bono Student Group.

Presently, Joey is an Associate with the firm’s dispute resolution team. She handles a wide array of matters, including disputes matters, debt recovery matters, family matters and private client matters.


Work Highlights

  • Counsel for the Japan P&I Club defending an action by an international financing bank against one of the Japan P&I Club’s shipowner for alleged wrongful switching of the bill of lading. Judgment reported in [2024] SGHC 74.  

  • Counsel for a high net-worth individual and her holding companies defending an action by a Japanese government-linked entity for claims in unjust enrichment, constructive trust and tracing arising out of fraudulent transactions committed by a co-defendant in Japan. Reported interlocutory decision in [2024] SGHC 63. 

  • Counsel for a subsidiary of a group of companies which is listed on the Nikkei 225 in the recovery of monies fraudulently transferred to conspirators in Singapore.  

  • Counsel for an established Japanese hospital/medical group in various disputes, including commencing an action against its former director and other related individuals and companies in breach of fiduciary duties, unjust enrichment and knowing receipt. 

  • Counsel for a Luxembourg-incorporated company in a claim against a Singapore-based company arising from breach of an investment agreement for the sum of USD 13 million. 

  • Counsel for the liquidators of a former large oil-trading company in Singapore in a dispute arising out of sale contracts for marine gas oil with an established company in the Maldives and successfully obtained a Final Award against the respondent (SIAC Arbitration; Singapore seat; Singapore law). 

  • Counsel for an Indonesian company in a dispute arising from an Indonesian court’s finding against an established Singapore-incorporated company headquartered in France (SIAC Arbitration; Singapore seat; Singapore law). 

  • Counsel for the plaintiff wife in a contentious ancillary matter where the value of the pool of matrimonial assets is more than S$5 million and located in various jurisdictions. 

  • Counsel for the defendant husband in a divorce matter involving highly contentious issues relating to the Defendant husband’s access to the child. 

  • Counsel for the plaintiff wife against the defendant husband in a highly contentious cross-border child abduction matter. 

  • Counsel for a Dutch national against a Belarusian national in a highly contentious application under the Guardianship of Infants Act involving highly contentious issues relating to the applicant’s access to the child. 

  • Applied for Grants of Letters of Administration and Grant of Probate for deceased persons domiciled locally and overseas where the value of the estate ranges from S$50,000 to USD$6.3 million. 

  • Advised on other private client matters such as applications under the Mental Capacity Act, drafting of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
